Like a Woman’s Soul
12.6.1 surround sound installation
(19 PCM discrete channels, 48 kHz, 24 bit), 26’21”, 2020
Kortil Gallery, Rijeka, Croatia, December 21, 2020 – January 5, 2021
Sound installation titled “Like a woman’s soul” is a continuation of my previous work titled “Abyssos” from 2004. While the source for the video/sound installation “Abyssos” was my fascination with the underwater world and the sea depths, in this piece I am focusing on my fascination with the irresistible and unfathomable women’s depths. The original sounds of a body in an act of love have been played through the SuperCollider software instrument to be edited and transformed into a structured abstract sonic experience, an ode to ecstasy of a sort. Musically deconstructed corporeality is reconfigured then into a spatial sound composition that physically surrounds the body (of the audience) within the gallery space. The audio composition is reproduced through 12 standard speakers, 1 subwoofer and 6 directional speakers (a total of 19 audio channels) configured to spatially form a circle in a gallery and generate a complete immersive surround audio experience for the listener standing in its center.
