Intimate Act

performance

Nova Gallery, Zagreb, Croatia, 1999

An intimate ritual of cutting my hair, repeated by the artist at regular intervals of two weeks for the past four years. It was first started as a conscious act of self-punishment, and a subconscious need to break with the past resulting from mental and emotional instability.
The act is performed in a dark and closed space, under a blue spot light, directed vertically from the ceiling. The viewers observe the performance through a single small peeping hole cut out in a panel dividing the public from the artist.
The product of this performance remains as an exhibit until the closing of the exhibition (cut hair and electrical hair-cutting machine in the blue spotlight).
