Klikiti klak

quadraphonic soundscape composition, 9’47’’ loop, 2026

“Overtourism”, MKC Gallery, Youth Center (Dom mladih), Split, July 9th – September 8th, 2026

In collaboration with Nick Tobier.

Through minimal interventions into recordings of tourists’ wheeled suitcases rolling across the stone streets of Split’s historic centre—the epicentre of mass tourism during the summer season—this quadraphonic soundscape composition intertwines the rhythm of suitcase wheels with the murmur of visitors and the voices of local residents, whose everyday lives are increasingly shaped by tourism.

The composition approaches the urban soundscape as a reflection of broader social change. The repetitive sound of suitcase wheels transcends its everyday function to become an acoustic marker of the tourist season, as recognizable as the bells of the Cathedral of St. Domnius or other motifs of the city. Klikiti klak explores how sound can bear witness to changes in public space and the gradual transformation of urban life.
